Entrance and step-free access
Our entrance is at street level on Bridge Street. You pass through three sets of doors: the front doors, which are kept open during opening hours; automatic doors; and a set of double push doors.
The entrance accommodates wheelchairs, mobility aids, prams and double pushchairs. Our team can help with doors and arrival if needed.
The main visitor spaces are on one ground level, with no lift required. These include the Living Room, Venue, Green Room, Wellbeing Room and toilets.
The Venue also has a small raised performance stage. If you need access to the stage, please contact us to discuss arrangements before your visit.
Accessible toilets
A gender-neutral accessible toilet is located along the corridor beyond the Wellbeing Room, after two right-angle turns.
It includes grab handles, an emergency pull cord and baby-changing facilities. Our team can help you find it.
Seating and mobility access
Seating is available throughout the building, including in exhibition and activity spaces.
Our rooms have flexible layouts, allowing us to arrange seating and activities to suit different events and access requirements. Please contact us if you would like to discuss a particular seating position, space for a mobility aid or another adjustment.
We do not have wheelchairs available to borrow at The Place.
Assistance animals
Assistance animals are welcome at The Place. The venue is also dog-friendly.
Visitors who are blind or have a visual impairment
Our team can offer general assistance during your visit. Please let us know what would be helpful.
Large-print guides, audio guides and audio description can be provided for certain productions and events. Availability depends on the event and the arrangements in place, so please contact us in advance to discuss your requirements and confirm what can be provided.
Visitors who are D/deaf or hard of hearing
You are welcome to contact us by email and tell us about your communication preferences or any support that would help you take part.
BSL interpretation can be available for certain productions and events, either by arrangement or through a visiting company. It is not provided at every event. Please contact us in advance to check availability and discuss your requirements.
Autistic visitors and visitors with sensory access needs
The Place hosts a range of activities, so noise levels, lighting and the number of people in the building vary.
Our Wellbeing Room has soft lighting and comfortable seating and can offer a quieter place to take a break. It is also used for activities, so availability may vary. Please ask the team about a quieter space during your visit.
You can contact us beforehand to ask about your event, the rooms, noise, lighting, queues, seating and opportunities to take a break. We will do our best to explain what to expect and discuss adjustments that may help.
Guided visits and accessible events
Guided tours can be available for certain productions and events, on request or as part of a visiting company’s programme.
For guided visits, BSL interpretation, audio description, large-print or audio guides, please email us as early as possible. Some arrangements depend on visiting companies, funding and availability. We will discuss what is possible for the event you want to attend.
Please also contact us if you would like to ask whether a touch tour is available for a particular event.
Our team
Staff receive regular disability confidence training. We are happy to discuss reasonable adjustments to help you visit and take part.
Artists, visiting companies and other people working with us can share an existing access rider or ask for our access rider form.
