The Place is open throughout September with free weekly activities, community events, live performances, exhibitions, comedy and creative workshops.

Regular Activities

Queer & Co.

Tuesday 15 September, 6pm–8pm
Free – no booking required
Ages 16+

Join the team from Rainbow Newport and Pride in the Port for an inclusive monthly LGBTQ+ social.

Held in a safe and sober space, Queer & Co. welcomes anyone aged 16 or over who identifies as part of the queer community or as an ally. Come together over a cuppa and conversation.

Social Wellbeing Circus

Every Wednesday, 6pm–8pm
2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 September
Free – no booking required
Ages 14+

Funded by the National Lottery Community Fund, Circus of Positivity invites you to join its fun and informal circus sessions.

Meet people, try something new or work towards a goal in a supportive environment. These social sessions are open to adults and young people aged 14 and over.

If you have a younger child who would like to attend with you, please email circusofpositivity@gmail.com or contact the group through its Facebook page.

Jean Genies

Every Thursday, 5pm–8pm
3, 10, 17 and 24 September and 1 October

Jean Genies is an open-access garment-mending and upcycling collective that meets in our Living Room.

Learn new fabric-mending skills or bring along a tricky project for some friendly support. The group offers skill surgeries where its members can help you develop your abilities and work through any problems.

Jean Genies is perfect for beginners and like-minded makers. Children under 16 may attend when accompanied by an adult.

Plot 4 – Coldra Road Allotments

Every Sunday, 2pm–4pm
6, 13, 20 and 27 September
Free – no booking required
Children and families welcome

Plot 4 community allotments meet every Sunday for gardening activities, time outdoors and social connection.

Once a month, the group also holds a Wellbeing Creativity session exploring seasonality and creativity within nature and the surrounding environment.

Children are very welcome when accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Pride in the Port – UK Pride 2026

The Place is delighted to support Pride in the Port – UK Pride 2026, helping to make Pride in Newport a welcoming and inclusive celebration for everyone.

As part of the celebrations, The Place will provide a family-friendly, calm and sober space where people can take a break from the excitement, enjoy a quieter environment and feel comfortable being themselves.

We believe Pride should be accessible to everyone, including people who may prefer a space away from crowds, loud music and alcohol.

Whether you’re attending with children and family, need a moment to recharge or simply want somewhere relaxed to spend some time, The Place is here for you.

Queer Comedy with Leila Navabi

As part of Newport Pride, The Queer Emporium’s Cardiff Queer Comedy is heading on tour for one brilliant night at The Place.

Hosted by the hilarious Leila Navabi, the stellar line-up features Alasdair Wallace, Sophie Litherland, Morgan Rees and Leila Navabi.

Expect sharp one-liners, brilliant storytelling and plenty of queer joy!

Concession tickets are available for students, people aged over 60, carers and companions, Hynt or CEA cardholders, unwaged guests and registered disabled guests.

Casnewydd Corner Live Podcast Launch with Cynefin Pamoja

Join Cynefin Pamoja for a vibrant celebration marking the launch of Newport’s first community-focused podcast.

Casnewydd Corner interviews residents from across Newport’s diverse communities. The launch event will feature stalls, panel discussions, live musical performances and children’s entertainment.

Neither Here Nor There

Neither Here Nor There is a series of six-minute conversations created and hosted by Jo Fong and Sonia Hughes.

Weather permitting, there will be a walk, small talk, a bite to eat, tables, chairs, questions, talking and listening. Come in, sit down and take part.

There will be solo, duet and ensemble moments. Complexity takes time: it requires multiple voices, many levels of expertise and patience in the unspectacular.

The project was inspired by the research of Frank Bock and Katye Coe.

Diverse Manners 2026 Exhibition

Diverse Manners Arts Group is a Newport-based collective of artists celebrating the beauty and creativity that can flow from an openness to the spiritual dimensions of existence.

The group aims to encourage artists to practise their art, and this exhibition presents new work by several local artists.

The exhibition will be displayed in our Living Room and can be viewed during The Place’s opening hours until 12 noon on Saturday 10 October 2026.

Brother Where Art Thou

Friday 25 September, 7pm

Brother Where Art Thou is a performance by trumpeter Ben Thomas and artist Robyn Wren, who, for the purposes of this creative statement, embodies the spirit of her late brother, Miss Truffles.

Blending live art, heartfelt songs, spoken word and improvisation, the performance creates a sanctuary of surrealism and chaos in which to process grief, celebrate life and confront the untamed spaces in between.
